PEACE has been the banner of the Pax Romana ever since its establishment as an international organization in 1921 at Fribourg, Switzerland. With the motto “Peace of Christ In the Kingdom of Christ,” the peace sustained for centuries still transcends on us today.
The idea of such organization came to the University of Santo Tomas in 1929 and in 1941, the UST Pax Romana was officially established.
With 75 years as an organization in the UST, the UST Pax Romana today celebrates its solemnity as a community of peace advocates. In accordance with Article 11, Section 4 of the Pax Romana Constitution which states that “August 7 (eve of the feast of St. Dominic) of each year shall be observed as Pax Romana Day. The induction of officers shall be held on this date unless circumstances do not allow it in which case the CCC Executive Board and Senate of Presidents shall reschedule the affair on another convenient date.” Celebrating 46 years of peace as an organization in the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB), a new generation of peace advocates of the Pax Romana-AB Unit (Pax AB) were being nurtured to share the essence of peace in the Artlet community. |
For Executive Vice President (EVP) Nuvi Dela Cruz and Assistant Secretary Jossel Manalo, the organization became their new home and family. “Pax Romana became another home and family to me which gave me that sense of peace and acceptance in this diverse community,” Ms. Dela Cruz said. “Pax Romana helped me find peace when they accepted me as a member of their family,” Ms. Manalo added.
Vice President for Catechetical Section Maika Ramos and Secretary Shaira Chan both agreed that they found peace in every activity of the organization they participated on.
“Pax becomes a conduit of peace especially when I participate in its events that serve the purpose of us humans- which is live in the name of His. This can be done by spreading His word by helping the needy and bringing people closer to God. What's more fulfilling than giving back to God, right? Pax helps fill in the void inside of me, it feeds satisfaction to my being,” Ms. Ramos said.
“The prayers, masses, and charity works that Pax Romana offered helped me find inner peace. It made me feel that I am doing something good amid all the distraction that is happening in our world today,” Ms. Chan added.
Going out from his comfort zone, Auditor Matthew Clarenz Tanodra knew that becoming a peace advocate is a “great privilege and responsibility” and for him, that is how he experience peace.
“It gives me peace knowing that I am not only a member but most of all an officer because it means that I can give more of my time to the Lord. Thus, seeing people happy after giving them service is very fulfilling to me,” Mr. Tanodra said.
Reflecting as the former Pax Romana AB -Unit EVP, Alyssa Patrisse Alonzo found inner peace during her stay in the organization. "Pax Romana helped me find peace through reflection and it taught me that peace comes from within us,” Ms. Alonzo said.
Decades have passed and faces in the Pax Romana community has changed. But the doors of peace are still open for everyone to join in.
The Pax Romana-AB Unit Executive Board humbly welcomes the upcoming Academic Year and all Artlets as they return at the University this week. May everyone have a bountiful and blessed year ahead. God bless us all.
