“MARTHA, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing."
In today's Gospel we encounter two familiar characters in the Bible, Martha and Mary. They are the sisters of Lazarus whom Jesus rose back from the dead. These two sisters were undoubtedly followers of Jesus. They are believers that Jesus Christ is a good teacher and master. That is why when Jesus came to visit them, Martha, without hesitation, prepared the best food, the best seat, and all the best she could give. By giving her best, she became busy.
Meanwhile, Mary sat down on the floor at the feet of our Lord Jesus Christ, listened to Him without hesitation.
The priest told today in his homily that both actions are indeed good. There is nothing wrong on preparing and becoming hospitable for guests. There is nothing wrong on giving our best to the Lord. But the story of Mary and Martha reminds us that before doing our best at anything, we should get the best part of our lives first. And that best part is being with our Lord. The best part of our everyday life is when we reflect and pray to Him.
We start the day with the best part by going to Mass. We eat our meals by doing the best part which is blessing the food. Starting our activities with prayer ensures us that the best is yet to come. The blessing of the Lord is there. Let us not forget that all goodness comes from the Lord. Everything else can wait. Let us not forget the best part of our life: God.
In this we pray,
Lord Jesus, may everything I do begin with You, continue with Your help, and be done under Your guidance.
May my sharing in the Mass free me from my sins, and make me worthy of Your healing.
May I grow in Your Love and Your service, and become a pleasing offering to You; and with You to Your Father.
May the mystery I celebrate help me to reach eternal life with you. Amen.
Have a blessed week ahead, Artlets!
