Listening with the Ear of Our Hearts

Looking back when we were kids, one of the first things taught to us is faith through religion. Our family has always guided us with how to live out and practice our Catholic faith. From going to masses, practicing the act of prayers and to receiving the blessed sacraments. We have openly welcomed and accepted these beliefs growing up.
But as the years pass, not only do we grow with time but also seem to want to break free from it. We tend to think more freely and actually break away from these beliefs that we once knew. Prayers were barely made, a huge difference from what our child selves did on a daily basis. Church masses do not really become our thing. Worst is that we only come to know or recognize Him, who we once saw as a friend, during our weakest and most vulnerable state.
Now more than ever, especially with violence having to rule over our land, He calls upon us. He calls upon us through His son, Jesus. Amidst darkness and chaos that now seem to cover our land, He calls upon us all to be the light of the world. Jesus calls us to peace and to reconnect with the word. Let us remember what He did, sending His apostles to spread the word of the Father. May we, as His children, and apostles of the church remember His words and live it in our lives.
As St. Benedict sees it, we should “Listen with the ear of our hearts.” Here, he uses the word listen in an active kind of way. We are called to listen not simply through the literal sense of the word but to understand what is said by Him for it is through Him we learn and live.
In this week's gospel, we are called to reflect, listen and do. For as the Easter season would come to a close with the Pentecost, we, his children are called so that we may grow in his words as well as to share His loving words to the world which is most in need of it. God calls to us through Jesus. He reaches out to us through his only son, Jesus. May we learn to respond and accept His invitation.
