Who is my neighbor?

"WHO is my neighbor?" The scribe asked Jesus.
Then Jesus told him the Parable of the Good Samaritan. We all know the story. It is about a man travelling then he was robbed and was almost killed by the robbers. A pharisee saw the man but he ignored him. Then a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached the victim and helped him.
It is the same old story since our Christian Life Education classes or other catechism sessions. It is a story that is so cliche but it was very hard to imitate. The story is about absolute love and goodness. It is almost perfect that very few could become like the Good Samaritan.
Men are naturally inclined with themselves or their loved ones. We always think of ourselves first because it us we are talking about. We take care of ourselves, we study for ourselves, we work for ourselves or for our loved ones. Some people even think that stranger is danger.
Well we cannot blame them. In this world full of deceptions, you cannot simply give your trust to anyone. There are times that you are the one helping and at the same time you are blamed as well. It hurts to be blamed despite the effort you exerted just to help someone.
But again, God is reminding us that His love is universal. He does not want us to be selfish. He wants us to give, share, and care for others. He wants us to love our brothers and sisters just like how we love ourselves. It is challenging, of course, but with it, Jesus said we could have a shot for eternal life.
We are not perfect but God is always calling us everyday to strive and try. Being good is something not new to us. God is good and so we are. Let us share this goodness and love to others today. Let us share our compassion and mercy to all people, whether they are our friend, foe, or stranger. In God's eyes, we are all worthy of love.
In this we pray,
God in heaven, we offer our deepest appreciation for the many blessings you shower upon us every day. We are truly humbled by the bounty of your graces. Through this prayer, we ask for the compassion to follow the inspiring example of the good Samaritan. Help us to embrace and bring comfort to those suffering immensely overseas. Teach us to be true neighbors to all in trouble and distress, and so imitate the Good Samaritan. Amen.
Have a blessed week, Artlets!
