FACULTY of Arts and Letters Regent Rodel V. Aligan, O.P., revealed that the faith of the Catholics is waning since they “lack reflection and application."
He added that they do not read the scriptures or manage to read the Gospel either.
"Ignorance of the scriptures is ignorance of Christ and ignorance of Christ is ignorance of God" Father Aligan said.
He mentioned that Catholics lack deeper understanding of their faith. He said that some Catholics are active participants of the activities of the Church but most people do not fully grasp the true meaning of the gospel.
Father Aligan also mentioned that the people have a difficult time interpreting the message of the scriptures and that the priests, bishop, cardinal, and the pope merely serve as guide and messengers of the revelation of God.
"May nagsabi nga na ‘kapag alam na alam natin ang turo ng simbahan, alam na alam natin ang patakaran ng isip sa pamamagitan ng banal na kasulatan ang kahahatungan nyan ay ang buhay na meron tayo.’"
Father Aligan maintained that the Artlet community should practice a life of prayer and to always have faith in God despite the everyday struggle.
The Faculty Regent already told Artlets last August that prayer is important for students and hoped that it may become a habit of the Faculty as well.
Faith has been always with human beings. During the old times, people already had their faith on certain things like belief in supernatural beings and other odd rituals that they find amusing. These acts show that even if there were no guidelines set during those times, the people have established standards on what they believe is right.
The Gospel urged Catholics to be alarmed on how they are and how they must be. With faith in God, they were asked to always assess their actions and on how they move and always think of the consequences it will reap.
He added that they do not read the scriptures or manage to read the Gospel either.
