“And they shall name him Emmanuel, which means, ‘God is with us,’”
Last Sunday of Advent. One week before Christmas. Third Day of the Simbang Gabi. The awaited moment of Christ’s birth is fast approaching. How have we prepared ourselves so far?
In today’s gospel, we heard of Joseph’s instrumental role in the history of our salvation. Just like the Virgin Mary, Joseph said YES to the angel’s message even if it entailed a drastic change in their lives. Imagine the difficulty of Joseph’s call to take care of Mary and be the foster father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We know very little of Joseph’s life since he is not mentioned anymore in the gospels after the presentation and finding of Jesus in the Temple. Yet despite Joseph’s brief appearance, his moments were of great importance.
Joseph’s role in the history of our salvation is of paramount importance. He obeyed God’s call to him on being the father of Jesus and the spouse of Mary. As Christians, how have we responded to God’s call us?
The birth of our Lord is fast approaching. Let us prepare ourselves as we receive the greatest gift, Our Savior, Our Messiah, the One who they shall call EMMANUEL, which means God is with us.
Let us also prepare ourselves in becoming a gift to others. As Jesus was given to us, we must also give ourselves in service to others. May we be heralds of the message of salvation to others that we may all proclaim that indeed GOD IS WITH US!
