Cease Inhumanity of Today

“There is nothing permanent except change” and this ‘change,’ for me, is not a hideous thing not until the “change is coming” materialized.
No one can deny the fact of how huge the changes happened in our world today, but what’s saddening was the ‘change’ I know was rapidly becoming a different thing – a terrifying thing.
The 16th president of the Republic of the Philippines – Rodrigo Roa Duterte – vowed to stop corruption, criminality, and, according to him, drugs that poisoned this country. Majority of the citizens, believing that this is for the betterment of this country, voted and eventually supported his campaigns, specifically the ‘war on drugs.’
The lives, which must be treasured, were neglected. The thousands of people who were killed, drug suspects and innocent people, were still not given the justice they deserved. And what’s more absurd were the people applauding for these killings and the blurry end of this war.
These circumstances were just part of the whole ‘change’ in our world today. There are various factors that sums the terrifying ‘change’ I have observed. And even the tiny bits and pieces of inhumanity contribute to these terrifying factors.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle once said, “To care is to be concerned for someone or for something na ‘yun bang meron akong pananaw na kailangan ko, o kahit parang natural na aking iniisip ang kapakanan ng iba.”
Do we know the true essence of caring? Or at least, do we know the cry of other people or our ears were blocked because of those terrifying factors?
Now, where is the human in humanity? Or rather, the real question was, does really the human in humanity exists?
Apathy, the escalating problem of today that were continuously injected to the minds and hearts of people was the number one factor that ruptured the peace that must prevail in our world today.
“Peace is more important than all justice.” And peace can come in various ways – even in little ways.
The essence of peace must overtake the apathy among humankind of this generation. To some, this peace might sound an abstract thing but this concept can be put into action if people will wake up from nightmare brought about by those terrifying factors.
Another year is coming; another chance of positive ‘change’ was approaching. May these chances of ‘change’ materialized into action and positivity.
To do away from apathy is what people carry out, be the little factor of peace and together build the whole peaceful and united world.
