Jesus Could Surprise Us Anytime

I’m big on aesthetics, especially regarding my hair.
I’m one of those boys that always had loose and crazy hairstyles. Even when paper deadlines are chasing me, sometimes, I’d make sure to get to class with a new, and slick, hairstyle – sometimes, just to see if they would notice. Would it surprise them if one day I fixed my undercut? – or maybe if I went bald? I’d like to anticipate the people who would look at my hair and start to see something different. More importantly – I hope they are prepared to see such a gorgeous surprise! But maybe now their senses are more than adept to remain conscious that I may surprise them the next time we see each other. I’ve done ridiculous changes to my hair a bunch of times – and they are starting to take notice of how random I can get!
The same can happen with Jesus – no, I’m not talking about hairstyles anymore – Jesus can surprise us anytime. He tells us to keep watch – or be on the lookout – stay woke! We need to prepare ourselves, for at anytime He can shock us. So, we need be prepared and take a moment to pause, check our lives, and see if our faithfulness brings us to grow really as a mature Catholic. Do we have bad habits? – are we lukewarm, or insincere? Do I give Him all that I can give, or am I still living in the pleasures of sin? How about my relationships – am I a good child? Am I honouring my obligations as a student? Pause – and check, the world is not going on forever, so am I prioritising the good of my soul? The second coming of Jesus can draw us into three resolves: first is that we become scared; the second, we can cram (and students love to cram!); or the latter, it calls us to respond immediately to His call and to order our lives in accord with His will – His loving and bearable (for because of Him our burdens are now lighter!) will.
Today, do not be afraid to put on the armour of God. And until we finally meet him again – it’s going to become a rough journey, but continue that the lights of our lamps be shining. Strive to grow spiritually, and in His coming again, we will feast, and witness the beauty of our holy wedding to Christ.
